Boris Johnson will of course be delighted with the results after winning the so called ‘hat-trick’ of the Hartlepool by-election, plus the Tees Valley and West Midlands mayoralties. Yet despite that impressive victory and a large Parliamentary majority, the legislative agenda announced this week was rather sparse. Labour can take some comfort from strong performances in Wales and gains in some Mayoral elections. However, these were devastating results for Keir Starmer especially the loss in Hartlepool and in Durham Council which went blue for the first time in a century.
